Ritual Drowning

Religious Customs · The Drowned God

‘What is dead may never die, but rises again, harder and stronger.’

The central rite of the faith is symbolic drowning.

  • A priest (often called a “Drowned Man”) holds the initiate underwater until they nearly drown.
  • The initiate is then revived.
  • This represents death and rebirth in the Drowned God.

The famous prayer:

“What is dead may never die, but rises again, harder and stronger.”

This ritual reinforces the Ironborn belief in resilience and fearlessness.
